First-ever McGill Alumni Dinner Held Successfully in Shanghai

Dec. 2, 2017 ShanghaiMcGill Society of Shanghai’s first-ever alumni dinner was held successfully yesterday evening in Hyatt on the bund, Shanghai. Positioned as the annual keynote alumni event of the year, the dinner has gathered 80+ McGill alumni. With the farthest one travel from Singapore, many alumni come from other cities like Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shaoxing and even from northern part of China. Distance can never stop the ensusiam of McGill’s alumni for gathering. Several special guests who were also invited at the dinner, Mr. Weldon Epp (The Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai), Dr. Suzanne Fortier (Principal and Vice-Chancellor, McGill University), Mr. Marc Weinstein (Vice-Principal, University Advancement, McGill University). They all gave welcome speech at the party. Dr Suzanne brought the latest and greatest news from Mcgill. Everybody is refreshed by Mcgill’s development history of more than 200 years.  McGill alumnus Peter Fu has given an extremely encouraging speech at the event, whose landmark gift to McGill’s Peter Guohua Fu School of Architecture has been a highlight of Sino-Canadian celebrations in Canada’s 150th anniversary year this year. He mentioned that he made the determination to give a donation someday if he could when he was still studying in Mcgill. He stressed that it was Mcgill and the study life there that has changed over his life.

The host of the party, Mr. Marc Weinstein has particularly mentioned several times of GMSCM which is Mcgill’s fast growing and successfully organized joint program with Zhejiang University. Prof. SONG Yonghua, the executive vice president of Zhejiang University with 10 GMSCMers were also attended. Everybody is proud of the phenomenon achievements GMSCM has been made and show their strong belief of its future. GMSCM now has more than 100 students with diversified backgrounds from different manufacturing sectors in China and around 50 students have already been graduated, whose vison have been broadened. McGill and Zhejiang University’s foresight cooperation has perfectly met the talent demand of China’s manufacturing restructuring and upgrading. The dinner was brought to the climax with the results announced that more than 20 alumni win the lucky draw and got beautiful souvenir gifts. The success of the event has given McGill Shanghai society confidence to experiment other alumni events in the future.  Everybody is looking forwards to the next gathering.
