May 23, 2014 Shanghai - After several weeks of preparation by Matt MA, the director of GMSCM Recruitment in Greater China, McGill University, the Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management (GMSCM) students had a great experience of factory visiting in Shanghai Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd and Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd.

The first stop in the morning is Shanghai Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd. This joint venture by China Eastern Airlines and United Technologies Corp's Pratt & Whitney established on November 6, 2007 and started production in September 2009.

With the China CAAC maintenance license and the U.S. FAA repair license, this joint venture, the only one in East China aircraft engine maintenance service centers, is major in maintenance of CFM56-5B, CFM56-3, CFM56-7 engines. Based on China Eastern Airlines in service engine repairs, it actively expands third-party market in China and the Asia Pacific region as well.

After short self introduction of all students, the general manager of Shanghai Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd, had a brief presentation of this facility, including the overviews of company, management team and operation conditions.

Later, under the leadership of Ms. LIU, the ACE (Achieving competitive excellence) program leader, all students conducted a visit tour in the repair plant. At the same time, Ms. LIU introduced the basic structures of ACE and general operations in this program. Students also raised some questions and suggestions during the trip of engine repair lines.

In the afternoon, all of us went to Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd for visiting. Husky is leading supplier of injection molding equipment and services to the plastics industry that founded in 1953.

With a strong foundation built on innovation, close customer relationships, a strong sense of community and a unique culture and values, Husky are dedicated to offering customers the highest quality products. Husky equipment and services are used to produce a wide range of products for the beverage packaging, closures, thin wall packaging, medical and consumer electronics markets.

Supply chain manager, Gary WANG, introduced the development of supply chain of Husky and the basic statement of Asia Pacific including market share and future strategy.

All students gain the valuable experiences by visiting the workshop of Husky. Several senior experts gave us simple introduction of their own works and shared unique experiences.

Both P&W and Husky provided typical topics from real case scenarios, those were very useful for students’ further discussion.
